General Motors is preparing an affordable and highly economical family car

Well, brace yourselves, ladies and gentlemen, for the Wuling Starlight is about to get a bit more diverse – they’re expanding the lineup! Forget about the sedan; now, we’re getting a wagon! Yes, you heard it right, a bloomin’ wagon! They plan to unveil this practical addition come springtime.

The Wuling Starlight wagon, a budget-friendly D-class model stretching around 4.8 meters, comes with a price tag starting at a mere $12,500. What’s more, it’s been cooked up with a touch of American flavor, as the brains at General Motors had their say in the development. After all, the good ol’ U.S. of A (alongside the Chinese SAIC) happens to be the proud owner of this brand.

Now, feast your eyes on the Wuling Starlight’s distinctive design – a rear end so pointy it could write a Shakespearean tragedy, paired with a roof pillar angle that’s more dramatic than a soap opera twist. Thin LED headlights and taillights stretching across the entire width of the body complete the look.

As for the interior of this wagon wonder, they’ve kept it under wraps for now. But let’s face it, it’s unlikely to differ much from its sedan sibling. Expect a virtual instrument cluster and a whopping great touchscreen, because, well, who needs buttons these days?

Behold, the new Wuling Starlight has been revealed in a plug-in hybrid guise, boasting a 177-horsepower electric motor and a 1.5-liter petrol four-pot with 105 horses playing the role of a generator. It can hit 145 km/h and sips on an average of 4 liters per 100 km. The wagon will come with battery options of 9.5 and 20.5 kWh, offering electric ranges of 70 and 150 km, respectively.

But wait, there’s more! The sedan version of the Wuling Starlight also comes in a 136-horsepower electric variant. Depending on the battery, you’re looking at an electric range of either 410 or a whopping 510 km. That’s more range than your grandmother’s bedtime stories!
